Coming up next term...
Written by: Rhianon Brooks
I hope everyone is having a great summer vacation.
I also hope lots of you are looking forward to coming back to Trent, or looking forward to starting your university experience at Trent in September.
In case you're not as enthusiastic about next term as I am, here's a little taster of some of the things we've got planned so far...
26th September, Sunday, Nottingham Trent University Sunday Funday kicks off Welcome Week. Come and find the NTU Pride stall for some games, activism, and advice.
28th September, Tuesday, Brackenhurst Freshers' Fayre. If you're studying out at Brack, we'll be coming to the Fayre so you can meet us and find out what the society is getting up to.
29th September, Wednesday, City Freshers' Fayre. If you're studying on the City Campus, we'll be coming to the Fayre so you can meet us and find out what the society is getting up to.
1st October, Friday, Clifton Freshers' Fayre. If you're studying at the Clifton Campus, we'll be coming to the Fayre so you can meet us and find out what the society is getting up to.
4th-8th October Socials' Week! A whole week of socials and events with something for everyone, from a meal out, to coffee, to Pounded @ Propaganda, and more besides. If you're new to Trent, this is a great way to discover what Nottingham's thriving Gay Scene has to offer, as well as meeting all of us at NTU Pride.
20th October, Wednesday, Psychology of Kink followed by Pounded @ Propagnada or Nottingham Munch. A discussion group, lead by Keith, organiser of the demos at the Birmingham Bizarre Bazar, which promises to be entertaining and informative. This is the first of our monthly workshops, held every third Wednesday in term time. Afterwards, it's Pounded @ Propaganda, though some of us are heading to the Nottingham Munch in the Pit and Pendulum, a chilled and relaxed gathering for people with alternative sexualities.
25th-29th October, Hate Crime Awareness Week. A variety of events organised by the society and Nottingham Trent Students' Union. Watch this space for more information!
27th October, Wednesday. Homophobia in Sport hosted by Nottingham Ball Bois! A discussion about sport, and homophobia, the name says it all, really.
30th October, Saturday. Football! Following on from their visit to Trent in the week, we're going to watch a Home Match between the Nottingham Ball Bois and a team from Scotland. After the match, the team have invited us to the pub, for drinks, food, and chat, before heading out for a night out, Ball Bois Style. Sure to be brilliant fun, so come along.
10th November, Wednesday. Biology of Homosexuality. A discussion lead by Mark Sergeant, senior lecturer in Psychology at NTU. We know you were looking forward to this event last term, and we promised to re-schedule it, so, here it is!
17th November, Wednesday, Intro to Rope work - the Japanese art of Shibari. The marvellous MRK and his team are coming to show us how to tie ourselves up in knots. A great fun evening we think everyone will enjoy. As it's the third Wednesday, some of us will be heading to the Nottingham Munch afterwards.
20th November, Saturday "Bad Drag" Picnic, in support of Love Without Borders. As part of the wider NUS LGBT Liberation campaigns, NTU Pride are marking Trans-Memorial Day with a sponsored picnic to raise money and awareness of LGBT rights in other countries.
1st December, Wednesday, World AIDS Day. An afternoon of awareness and fund raising, followed by a vigil for all those, world wide, who are experiencing the impact of AIDS.
All this, plus our regular committee meetings + karaoke @ Propaganda, every Monday, our Wednesday nights getting Pounded @ Propaganda, and Friday barcrawls including Propaganda, Foundation, Fuel, ad2, The Lord Roberts and Poptastic @ NG1, and a whole lot more we're still organising.
Are you looking forward to coming back now?
See you soon!

Picnic in the Park!
Written by: Rhianon Brooks
Unfortunatly, because of circumstances beyond our control, there is no picnic this evening :( <\br><\br>Instead join us in Foundation for a drink later on :)<\br><\br> So, because it is sunny, and because we like sunshine, and vitamin D and all that healthful stuff, we're having a picnic! On Saturday, at about 4 ish, in the arboretum. In true Rhi-catering style, there might be cake (or cookies). If you can't find us, drop me a txt. But we'll start out from the High School Tram stop about 4pm, and find somewhere sunny to have tea.

Recent Changes @ Pride
Written by: Rhianon Brooks
Dear Members, Prospective Members, and Friends,
In the past couple of days there have been a lot of internal changes on Pride Committee, following some tense few months during which all parties tried to reach amicable solutions to the problems we faced.
As a result of these changes the Committee currently (00:00 2nd July 2010) consists of;
Rhi Brooks - Campaigns and Representation Officer, Acting President.
Rob Basset - Secretary
Sam Marshall - Publicity Officer
Tim Dawson - Tri-Campus Liason
Lottie O'Leary - External Events
As a result of these changes, an EGM will be held as soon as possible at the start of academic year 2010/11 to re-elect all committee positions, there having been strong calls for this from both paid members and committee members.
Those remaining on the committe to work through the summer months, organising our involvement with Nottingham Pride, and beginning the preparations for Welcome Week, ask for your support as we do this. Constructive suggestions are always welcome in my inbox (rhianon.brook@ntupride.org.uk) or sent to me via FaceBook.
We would like to remind you of the successful year the society enjoyed in 2009/10, and voice our hope for similar success, fun, frivolity and activism in the coming year.
We are grateful to our sponsors, Propaganda Bar, for continuing to work with and support us, and look forward to seeing this relationship grow next year.
The society is continuing to organise events over the summer months for those still in Nottingham, so please keep checking in for more information about those.
On a personal note; I have made many good friends over the past year in Pride, I know how good this society can be, and I intend to do my utmost to make this society one I will be proud to promote to Freshers in Welcome Week as a great place to come, meet fabulous people, have a laugh and a great night out, as well as do a little bit to make the world around us a bit of a better place.
Thank you for this year, everyone, it's meant a lot to me.
