Campaigns

We organise many campaigns at Nottingham Trent University from awareness and political campaigns to fundraising work. We now implement campaigns across NTU organised by the NUS LGBT, our Society, and those in conjuction with the SU and local organisations. We encourage our members to get involved with these campaigns whether it be putting up posters in your Halls of Residence and giving out flyers ourside the SU with us, to helping organise a signed petition to Parliament.

Current Campaigns:
Bullying Sucks

Everyone has the right to study in safety. NTU Pride is campaigning for the University to introduce a new dedicated LGBT-bullying policy to combat bullying at NTU and to raise awareness that even at University level, over 60% of students are bullied on the grounds of their sexuality or gender identity.

Glovesoff

It’s been 25 years since the press first reported on the mysterious illness that robbed people of their immune systems with horrific effects. Yet amazingly many of the myths of the late 80s – like ‘HIV can be caught just by shaking hands’ – continue to be believed today. This World AIDS Day, Terrence Higgins Trust wants to overturn these false beliefs. If we all work together, people with HIV will no longer have to face daily discrimination.
Catch a Heart, Save a Heart

On Valentines Day 2008 catch someone's heart and keep it safe. A campaign to raise money for the British Heart Foundation and fight heart disease.

Previous Campaigns
Donation not Discrimination 2006/07

Gay and bisexual men are banned for life from donating blood. A campaign to raise awareness of why gay and bisexual men should be legally allowed to give blood and how much the National Blood Service is potentially wasting during a time of blood shortages.
Big Gay Read 2005/06

Finding the nations favourite gay or lesbian book, organised with Blackwells Bookshop.

WelCam is a new welfare campaigns action group which has been set up by NTSU to actively campaign on issues that matter to you as students. WelCam is made up of student volunteers that campaign on certain welfare issues to firstly create an awareness of the issues and then try to influence change here at NTU and in Nottingham as a whole.

All NTU Pride campaigns are run in conjuction with Welcam. To get involved with Union-wide campaigns, email welcamcommittee@su.ntu.ac.uk.
