Equal Opportunities - Homophobia, Transphobia, Discrimination and Unfair Treatment Nottinghamshire Police clearly define homophobic and transphobic incidents as "any incident which is percieved to be homophobic or transphobic by the victim or any other person". Some incidents can be seen by everyone, although there are some less visible incidents that may involve being unfairly treated with regard to your studies. Any homophobia, transphobic discrimination or harrasment of LGBT people is a crime. Nottingham Trent University and the Students Union have an Equal Opportunities policy which protects it's students from unfair treatment and discrimination on the grounds of their sexuality or gender identity. This University is very diverse and homophobic incidents are extremely rare. However if you are the victim on discrimination, homophobia or harrasment you can report it to the Society. As the representative body for all LGBT students at Nottingham Trent University, we are in a position to take such matters to the University or Students Union and ensure that any situation is resolved quickly and discreetly. With your consent, we can also take the matter further to the Police. Representation NTU Pride has representatives on the Nottinghamshire Police LGBT Advisory Committee, Nottingham City Council LGBT Steering Group, the Nottingham Pride committee and the Students Union Welfare and Campaigns Committee. We also have strong links with the GAI Health Project, BreakOut and OutBurst social groups and many other groups in the area. This means we are in an excellent position to deal with hate crime incidents and have contacts in all areas of the LGBT community in Nottingham who are there to help with such incidents. What to do if you are the victim of discrimination or unfair treatment To report a homophobic or transphobic incident to the Society you can use the Hate Crime Reporting Form. Filling out this online form will allow us to take it further and help you resolve any incident. You may submit the form anonymously if you prefer and all fields on the form are optional, but please remember the more information you provide, the quicker we will be able to help you. We will not contact the Police or disclose your personal data without permission from you. We will contact you to confirm we have recieved it, and also when we have a result of the report. |
