World AIDS Day
Written by: NTU Pride

December 1st is World AIDS day, and here at Pride we're marking the event with a short period of reflection and shared meal in the Clifton WellBeing Room from 1pm on Thursday 1st December.

Come along and share time with the NTU Pride Committee, University Chaplains, and many other students from NTU as we hold in mind those with experiences of HIV/AIDS and the role we can all play in changing those experiences for the better.

Lunch is provided, and free, but donations to the World AIDS day collection are appreciated.

Minutes
Written by: NTU Pride

Minutes from Thursday 17th March 2011

Present:Rhi, Rob B, Ellie, Gurps, Kellie, Rob T, Ben, Donna.

1) We are going to enforce a 'sober' rota. Basically each committee member will take turn at being the 'eyes and ears' at each social. The person doing this on the social will be around for anyone to go to with any issues they may be having on the night. We will start specifying on the facebook event who will be taking the role on each social. Doug is going to create the rota.

2) A facebook event is going to be created to make people aware of the existence of Student Pride in Brighton and to promote this social. Gurps is going to create the event. We are unsure as to where we are going to stay when we are there. There was mention that we could stay in Hove or Bognor Regis as hotels here may be cheaper and it is not too difficult to get to these places.

3) Kellie attended a conference on Thursday and a few issues were raised: - getting members for a network; challenging fears associated with people's sexuality. We are going to try and establish a shared network between Nottingham Trent University and University of Nottingham. One of the ideas that was brought up is that University of Nottingham is going to have a poster campaign showing on campus existence of the societies.

4) Last week there was an incident of misuse of the facebook chat facility on the Pride Events page. There is no way of us stopping the misuse of chat without removing the events page from facebook. Instead we are going to insert a disclaimer on the page excluding the society from liability of comments made. Rob T is going to create this.

5) Doug spoke to Student Support Services at Clifton Campus last week. He is going to pitch his idea and see if he gets the go ahead with his leaflets and talk.

6) On the 20th April the Nottingham Trent Student Union Awards ceremony is taking place. Can members please start nominating us for awards on the NOW system.

7) We were joined at this weeks meeting by Ben and Donna from Nottinghamshire Pride. They put forward their plans for the day...it sounds really good! They also asked us to help them through volunteering our time either on the day or on the run-up to it in order to raise funds to make the day a success. We were also asked if there are any things we would like to be supported with from the members of Nottinghamshire Pride.

8) There was discussion that there is a lot of interest regarding gay rights and issues related to homosexuality. For example gay adoption or refusal to allow a gay couple stay in your B&B. As a result of this Rhi is going to organise a Varsity debate relating to this topic. Possibly to be held on the 30th July.

9) Dan suggested that the final social of term 2 will be themed 'childhood memories' and will be based on a bar crawl comprising of (amongst others) Coco Lounge, Propaganda and NG1.

Minutes
Written by: NTU Pride

Minutes from 7th March 2011

Present: Rob T, Dan, Kelly, Josh, Doug, Kellie T, David, Lottie, Rob B, James, Gurps

1) Bowling trip arranged for Friday 11th March at 19:30.

2) Brighton Student Pride - Discussion about Student Pride on 30th April - Where abouts in Brighton is it actually being held? Are there any camping sites nearby we could stay at? Transport there still needs to be sorted. Talk of staying in a hotel, however, Gurps said she had checked, but there aren't any vacancies at any of them - Could also be quite expensive.

3) Kellie Turner is attending a conference on Tuesday 8th March - are there any things we wanted her to bring up at the conference? Nobody had any suggestions.

4) The meeting place for socials in still the Left Lion in Market Square, however, we are changing the meeting time to 22:30.

5) Discussion of committee members responsibilities when out on socials. Talk of perhaps having one member of the committee on each social being the person to go to if any issues arise.

6) NTU Pride hoodies need to be sorted out. The logo needs to be finalised and getting a sponsor, although not essential would be a good thing.

7) Discussion regarding socials - It was suggested that once a month we should have a themed, dressing up social to Ocean and a visit to Rock City once a month aswell. It was also suggested that a meal before nights out could be beneficial to society members as its a good time to have a catch up.

Election Results
Written by: Rhianon Brooks

Howdy folks,

We had an election, and it was good. There were a bunch of constitutional ammendments, which were all passed, and mean that the constitution now says that we do things that we do do, and doesn't say that we do things that we don't.

Then there were elections. Here's your new committee...

President - Kellie Turner
Secretary - Rob Trench
Treasurer - Rhi Brooks
Socials - Dan Ralph
Publicity - James Scoot
Welfare and Representation - Doug Cowles
Campaigns - Kelly Sutheran
Officer Without Portfolio - Ellie Ingamells

So there you have it folks, next term is all about handover, where the new committee get to learn the ropes and start to lay foundations for next year, when they'll take over and have another amazing year with NTU Pride.

If you've any suggestions for things that you would like them to do/organise/campaign for/etc, get in touch with them via facebook, as the website emails still go to the *existing* officers.

have a really great week, and we'll see everyone tomorrow night at the Left Lion at 2045 (a bit earlier than usual, we know) for the Nottinghamshire Pride fundraising Quiz at the Lord Roberts, followed by much merriment and frivolity about the Nottingham Scene :)

Minutes

MInutes from meeting 14th February 2011

Present: Rhi, Rob B, Rob T, Hash, Kellie, Ellie, Gurps.

1) We have 4 committee meetings a month, which currently are only open to committee members. However, on the 7th February we had an open meeting for all members of NTU Pride to attend. We concluded that this was a good way for us to hear members opinions of the society and let them input ideas for socials, charity work, campaigns etc. As a result the first committee meeting of every month will be open to ALL members of the society and the other 3 closed to only committee members.

2) Student Pride in Brighton will be happening on the 30th April 2011. Still unsure of how we will be getting there. Talk of hiring a coach. You have to be a paid member to go. Gurps, Ellie and Dan to organise how we are getting there and to create the event on facebook. We will need to set a date for knowing numbers by in order to book coaches if that is how we decide to travel.

3) The debate will be held at City campus, Belgrave 201 (C floor) on Tuesday 22nd February. It will begin at 5pm. The topic is "Do Gay Public Figures have a Moral Duty to Out Themselves?" Two speakers were needed. Kellie and Gurps offered to do it.

4) "Come Drag With Me" at @d2 is taking place on sunday 20th February. It starts at 21:30 and is a fundraising event for Nottinghamshire Pride. Donna has contacted people to do some volunteer work selling wristbands at the event.

5) It was suggested that Dan and Rob T build up a relationship with the new bar Rumours and the new nightclub Unique. Dan has already emailed them and is awaiting a reply.

6) There are some issues with the website as we don't have the instructions of how to change settings on the website and so changing it will be a lengthy process. It was decided that a 'sit down' committee meeting was needed to go through the website and make any amendments. This is going to be held at Rhi's house. A date for this is to be discussed and confirmed on the facebook committee thread.

7) Pride committee member handover document's are nearly complete so handovers will be happening soon.

8) The NTU Pride constitution is currently in a mess as so many changes have been made to the society over the past year that have never been amended in the actual constitution. Rhi is slowly but surely making the required changes.

9) Currently there are no members of the committee who are staying next year who have any experience of running the society. This is quite a big issue. Suggestions about what to do about this are needed? This issue needs to be resolved. Handover packs give the details of what each job role is and what is required of each committee member so the society could run fairly well next year, however, there are just issues with procedure and who to talk to if things go a bit wrong or questions need answering.

10) There is an LGBT training day on the 8th March at the University of Nottingham. The main aim of the day is to teach people to work together with other LGBT organisations. Rhi is going to book this for the committee members who wish to participate.

11) On agreement of how good the last bowling social was, it has been decided that another one should happen. It is planned for the 11th March at AMF Bowling. Rhi is going to book. A facebook event will be created by Dan so that we know numbers. It was suggested that we should go to Nine Spices after bowling but this will be done on a separate occasion, possibly 17th March.

12) The meeting place for socials will not be changed to Pit and Pendulum until after the AGM March 8th.

Research Study
Written by: Rhianon Brooks

Please direct all correspondance about this project to Joanna directly (Joanna.mountain2008@my.ntu.ac.uk)

I am a final year Psychology student at Nottingham Trent University and I’m contacting you to ask for help with a piece of research I’m conducting.

My research focuses on how a woman’s levels of social and physical aggression can vary across the menstrual cycle. There is very limited research on female aggression per se, and there are almost no studies which have examined levels of aggression in non-heterosexual women. I would like to offer the opportunity to participate in this research to members of your organisation

Women participating in this study will be asked to complete three questionnaires; one asking demographic questions (e.g., age) and then a further two on levels of aggression will need to be completed at two separate phases of the participant’s menstrual cycle.

All of the methods employed in this study have been approved by an institutional ethical review board and meet the high ethical standards established by the British Psychological Society.

I would really appreciate it if you could forward this email on to members of your organisation order to participate in the study please follow the link below.

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/RN9TYS7

I’d like to thank you again for your time and also I’d like to take this opportunity to re-iterate how grateful I am for your potential co-operation on this study

Thank you again,

Joanna Mountain

Minutes from the meeting 27/01/11

Present: Rhi, Rob B, Lottie, Gurps
Gary, Charlotte, Dan, Rob T, Donna, Hash, Kellie, Ellie

Agenda
Matters from last week
New Committee
Wayne¡¦s texts
Rob and Lottie¡¦s Show
Stuff from GurpsRhi
AOB

1. A) Stall at Propaganda
Gary likes the idea, Gurps says it makes the society easier to approach. General consensus to go ahead, this is a Good Idea. Kellie mentions confidentiality and pictures, suggestion on having lollipops as a lure, and putting a socials agenda as a poster on the wall with the stall.

B) NUS LGBT Conference
On the 8th May. In Manchester. Rhi has spoken to Sarah Mason, who will be providing funding. There are questions about eligibility criteria for going. This needs looking into before we choose representatives. Rhi notes importance of commitment to attending all sessions on conference, and some of the forums, that delegates will be representing all Trent students. Says it¡¦s a really great weekend.

C) The meeting on Thursday
Feb 3rd, from 1800-2000. Rhi has booked a room. This is Newton N28. Gurps is making a facebook group.

D) Brighton. Gurps is meeting Sarah from Veggie soc tomorrow. Rhi has let Matt know about the planned trip, and mentioned that there are training sessions coming up about how to organise trips.

2. New Committee.
Each vacant position was announced, briefly described by Rhi, candidates nominated themselves, any relevant questions were raised, and any objections to appointment asked for. No current committee member objected to any appointment, and no other member objected to any appointment. Hence the following members have joined the committee in the following positions¡K

Secretary ¡V Rob Trench
Welfare ¡V Kellie Turner
Socials ¡V Dan Ralph
Officer Without Portfolio ¡V Ellie Inganells

It was noted that there is a potential candidate for Campaigns and Representation, but as they were not present, they could not be appointed.
Rhi will compile handover documentation, and do individual handovers in the next fortnight.
The new committee members assume their roles immediately.
Gurps to start a committee facebook thread.
That committee members are ¡¥representatives¡¦ of the society is stressed, and that committee members should hold this in mind when out being social.
Rhi to look into hoodies @ Pulse next week.

3. A) Wayne requests moving Thursday¡¦s meeting to 1830.
People in general say no, they would not be able to attend this due to university and work commitments. It is noted that the meeting has already moved once to facilitate Wayne¡¦s attendance, and he continues to be unable to attend. It is noted that Propagnada is now closed on Mondays so Wayne would be able to attend if the meeting was on a Monday. Suggest moving the meeting back to Mondays. Meeting is moved back to Mondays at 7 pm, venue Orange Tree. (Some discussion about changing the venue, this is not a liked idea).

B)Wayne says we need to get posters and promotional material made.
Rob B suggests that this is something we could use sponsorship money for. Rhi says that posters for specific events ¡V like Brighton ¡V are good, but general posters are ignored and become out of date quickly. Suggestion of getting wristbands. Hash mentions they are cheap. Gary notes he¡¦s been wearing his Lincoln one for over a year. General acceptance that after a drunk night it is hard to lose a wristband, and they are a good reminder.
Decision ¡V have posters for specific events, and wristbands for general promotion. Put these on the Propaganda stall. Talk to Propaganda about branding/finance.

C)Meeting
Wayne says a room needs booking. Rhi says she did this already.
Gurps is making a facebook event/group thingy.
Kellie suggests making an online survery using autoform to get feedback from people who can¡¦t make the meeting, or who do not want to come to the meeting/be out. She will do this. The results will be in SPSS. We¡¦ll figure that out. Rhi has books.

D) Davina Daniels has been in touch about a new LGBT youth group. Wayne says that we can promote this through the society.
Rhi says she has clarified who Davina approached ¡V NTU Pride or NTSU, and Wayne replied that Davina had approached him personally. There is some confusion about this.
Lottie will ask Davina to approach Kellie (Welfare Officer) to give NTU Pride more information about the group, so that the committee can decide whether and how to support it. It is noted that as NTSU LGBT Officer, Wayne can make decisions on behalf of NTSU, but not on behalf of NTU Pride without consulting the committee during a meeting.
During the meeting Lottie hears back from Davina, who says she is not currently engaging in youth work. There is now more confusion. Rhi to follow up with Wayne about what is going on.

4. Rob and Lottie
They are organising a show. This will be fundraising for make a wish and outburst. It is on the 11th April. They are looking for more acts. Rhi asks about FFC, Rob says they didn¡¦t know that was who was at the ball. Will look into it. Lottie says that they¡¦ve had problems booking NTSU Byron House. Rhi to follow up ¡V possibly something Wayne could help with as NTSU LGBT Officer. Noted that NCN is being considered as a follow-up venue, AJ is looking into this. Rhi mentions she has contacts with NCN Students¡¦ Union, and will pass these over/speak to them if needed. Lottie notes that Propaganda have promised champagne, which is lovely and appreciated, and that they will host the aftershow party. Yay party ƒº It is noted that this is the kind of thing we should have posters for.

5. Gurps
20/2 Come Drag with Me at @d2 ¡V a fundraiser for Nottingham Pride. Dan (Socials Officer) to organise us going.
25/2 Religion, Youth and Sexualities Conference, at Midlands Conference Centre. Uni of Nottingham have asked if NTU Pride would like to send delegates. They need numbers. 6 people express an interest. Gurps to book 6 tickets.
Stonewall Walk. Gurps is going to speak to Elliot and egg.
15/2 LGBT Awards Night at the Council Chanbers. Meet at 1930 at the Left Lion.
Notes that we have an established communications system with Nottingham Pride, and that as this is working we should not try and change it.

6. Rhi
Action Points
Chase up Davina Daniels
Sort out hoodies
Meet Claire Henson re Justin Sports event 2/2
Arrange a meeting with Sian Jordan re Pride to sort out what¡¦s going on with communication

Rhi says she is resigning, and will step down when the EGM is called and a new President is elected. She says this is because she is; tired of people bitching and blaming her for things that aren¡¦t her fault, and generally questioning her commitment to the society; she no longer feels part of the society, that the society is an LGBT society and not minority sexualities. She explains her joining, and becoming a member of the committee, notes that this was to represent more minorities ie her. It is noted that the minority events last year were well enjoyed, and BDSM 101 was the second most popular event after the relaunch. She notes, however, that vocal members and non-members of the society were against inclusion, and that committee members frequently said ¡§this is not what members want¡¨ when more alternative events were proposed. The society does not represent her, and she does not feel part of it; Rhi also does not feel representative of an LGBT society, that the President should reflect members, and she does not. There are more appropriate people to be President.
Gurps notes that an EGM has to be held before the 4th March to elect next year¡¦s committee, Rhi says she will step down after that.

Any Other Business.
Rename the society ¡V discussion occurred during the meeting. Decision ¡V go back to being called and being an LGBT society, makes us easier to find, and reflects what the society actually is.

Sponsorship ¡V ask to use this to produce wristbands and business cards

Website ¡V Rob B is on this. He says technical stuff Rhi (who is taking the minutes) doesn¡¦t follow.

Facebook ¡V Gurps is currently in charge of facebook, but everyone on the committee will get the passwords to the account to be able to update it with stuffs. Notes the importance of the ¡§blog update cycle¡¨, especially whilst the website is still being sorted out.

Lottie suggests creating a ¡§staff member¡¨ committee position, as the society represents staff members but does not have a specific voice for them. Asks Donna if she would like to be part of this. Donna says yes. Rhi will speak to NTSU about sorting this out.

Gary notes that Unique and Rumours are opening, and we do not have a relationship with them. This is a Bad Thing. Dan and Rob T (Socials and Secretary) to go and make friends.

Kellie asks what we¡¦re doing about LGBT history month. Gurps says the awards and the walk. Rob B says sports and ball bois events. Rhi notes that these plans can be clarified on the facebook committee thread.
br>Other Action Points
Brighton ¡V Dan (Socials) and Ellie (OWOP) to be in charge of co-ordinating trip.
Kellie (Welfare)to take point on co-ordinating volunteering at Nottingham Pride, as well as finding more opportunities for members to engage in voluntary work within the community.

Minutes
Written by: Rhianon Brooks

Minutes of the meeting on 20/01/11

Present: Rhi and Gurps

1 – Gurps and Socials

Film next week – Rocky Horror Picture Show – to be postponed as no room available

David and Ellie want to get involved – this is good

Suggestions – Come Dine/Gay with me, a Picnic, a Baking social.

Fancy dress social to Ocean once per month

Participating in the Stonewall walk – Rhi to look into this

Valentine’s Day Speed Dating

Also, suggested going to BRIGHTON this year instead of Manchester, on 19th March, sharing transport/accommodation costs with Veggie Soc as this will make the trip cheaper for members. And Brighton is fun! – Gurps to talk to the Veggies.

2 - Letter from Wayne

a) new schedule for blog updating; Monday – plan for the week, Tuesday – something from Gurps, Wednesday – reminder of committee meeting, prompt for agenda items, Thursday – something from Rhi, Friday – something from a committee member, the weekend – the minutes from Thursday’s meeting.

Rob to see about whether we can do other stuff with the website. Rhi to talk to Switchboard about information updates.

b)Gurps to be in charge of facebook for next couple of weeks

c)Nottingham Pride – Rhi spoke to Sian on the committee to chase up who tried to speak to us and what about, Sian doesn’t know what’s going on. Clarified plan for Pride – NTU promote events, plus some stewards for march, and have stall on the day.

d)Minutes – to go in a blog. We do not currently have a secretary, this is a problem. Also, are the email addresses working?

e)Budget – money to be spent on NUS LGBT Conference, trip to Brighton, Lottie and Rob’s Show, adding to the resources in the Pride boxes.

f)Stall in Propaganda – Gurps and Rhi to talk to Wayne about this tomorrow.

g) Committee members – we need more. Notes that Lottie and Rob are eligible to be on the committee, people who are not students (or staff of NTU) are not eligible. Notes that is 2/3 of the committee are present, new members of the committee can be appointed instead of elected through an EGM. Notes that as there tends to only be one candidate per position, and EGM appoints anyway. Also notes that EGMs are rarely quorate, poorly attended, and a pain/take considerable time to organise. Also notes, we have to have one next term anyway. Decides that, assuming there is only one candidate per position, the committee will appoint new members to fill vacant roles with a view to getting the committee doing things sooner rather than later as having such a small committee is one reason why it’s hard to achieve things.

h) Wayne says he knows 20-25 students who are unhappy with the society. Rhi notes she’s is fed up of hearing that people are unhappy with the society, without those people then saying constructively what it is they want the society to do, or what it would take to make them happy. It is noted that committee members are trying lots of different things, and guessing what members want, and are clearly getting it wrong. ACTION – a general gathering of the feedback sharing type to be held on 3rd Feb in a room tbc on city campus.

Presidency – Rhi feels she’s not the best representative of the society, and the society doesn’t represent her. Suggest going back to LGB label. Problem that someone has to be President and there aren’t any other people around right now who want to do it. Notes that Rhi has done stuff, just less visible stuff, such as liaising with Switchboard, helping South Notts College, and co-ordinating involvement with the Justin sports events.

3 – bowling. New people are coming, yay! Rhi to make sure lanes are sorted, Gurps to meet people at Left Lion.

4 – Sunday Lunch. Postponed to next weekend.

5 – Show. Tabled til next week

6 – Rhi. Going to meet Claire Henson re general community involvement on 2/2/11, also to figure out Stonewall Walk. Gurps to being history month flyers next week to plan February.

AOB – Conference – Rhi to speak to Mason re Money and to find criteria for delegation. Gurps to find details of conference.

Sponsorship – new alcohol sale laws are challenge, suggest new sponsorship ideas, shirt socials, Gurps and Rhi to talk to Wayne tomorrow.

Committee to start meeting up on Wednesdays at 7 before going out? Not if have official pre-drinking gathering. Think about having committee ‘get together’ time when there’s no ‘work’ to be done, just social space.

Election Results
Written by: NTU Pride

Last night, there were elections, and these are the results.

External Liaison - Lottie O'Leary

Publicity - Rob Bassett

Socials - Rhys Roberts *

Treasurer - Gurps Sahaota

President - Rhi Brooks

Thank you to everyone for attending and voting, this is your new committee, who take office on November 1st.

The first committee meeting (open) is on Monday, at 8pm, in the Orange Tree, we're the big round table at the front of the bar.

If you would like to assume one of the remaining positions (Secretary, Welfare, Campaigns and Representation, and Officer Without Portfolio) please come to the meeting, and be prepared to offer reasons why you should be temporarily appointed ahead of the next EGM.

There was some confusion about the results of the election for Socials' Officer. There were ten ballots cast, four in favour of RON, five in favour of Rhys (not the four counted during the ballot) and one abstention. A recount of the votes was requested because of the close nature of the vote, this was carried out by Matt Leventhall this afternoon. Nine ballots were counted last night, one was not counted, hence the discrepancy in the number of votes in each count.

Coming up next term...
Written by: Rhianon Brooks

I hope everyone is having a great summer vacation.

I also hope lots of you are looking forward to coming back to Trent, or looking forward to starting your university experience at Trent in September.

In case you're not as enthusiastic about next term as I am, here's a little taster of some of the things we've got planned so far...

26th September, Sunday, Nottingham Trent University Sunday Funday kicks off Welcome Week. Come and find the NTU Pride stall for some games, activism, and advice.

28th September, Tuesday, Brackenhurst Freshers' Fayre. If you're studying out at Brack, we'll be coming to the Fayre so you can meet us and find out what the society is getting up to.

29th September, Wednesday, City Freshers' Fayre. If you're studying on the City Campus, we'll be coming to the Fayre so you can meet us and find out what the society is getting up to.

1st October, Friday, Clifton Freshers' Fayre. If you're studying at the Clifton Campus, we'll be coming to the Fayre so you can meet us and find out what the society is getting up to.

4th-8th October Socials' Week! A whole week of socials and events with something for everyone, from a meal out, to coffee, to Pounded @ Propaganda, and more besides. If you're new to Trent, this is a great way to discover what Nottingham's thriving Gay Scene has to offer, as well as meeting all of us at NTU Pride.

20th October, Wednesday, Psychology of Kink followed by Pounded @ Propagnada or Nottingham Munch. A discussion group, lead by Keith, organiser of the demos at the Birmingham Bizarre Bazar, which promises to be entertaining and informative. This is the first of our monthly workshops, held every third Wednesday in term time. Afterwards, it's Pounded @ Propaganda, though some of us are heading to the Nottingham Munch in the Pit and Pendulum, a chilled and relaxed gathering for people with alternative sexualities.

25th-29th October, Hate Crime Awareness Week. A variety of events organised by the society and Nottingham Trent Students' Union. Watch this space for more information!

27th October, Wednesday. Homophobia in Sport hosted by Nottingham Ball Bois! A discussion about sport, and homophobia, the name says it all, really.

30th October, Saturday. Football! Following on from their visit to Trent in the week, we're going to watch a Home Match between the Nottingham Ball Bois and a team from Scotland. After the match, the team have invited us to the pub, for drinks, food, and chat, before heading out for a night out, Ball Bois Style. Sure to be brilliant fun, so come along.

10th November, Wednesday. Biology of Homosexuality. A discussion lead by Mark Sergeant, senior lecturer in Psychology at NTU. We know you were looking forward to this event last term, and we promised to re-schedule it, so, here it is!

20th November, Saturday "Bad Drag" Picnic, in support of Love Without Borders. As part of the wider NUS LGBT Liberation campaigns, NTU Pride are marking Trans-Memorial Day with a sponsored picnic to raise money and awareness of LGBT rights in other countries.

1st December, Wednesday, World AIDS Day. An afternoon of awareness and fund raising, followed by a vigil for all those, world wide, who are experiencing the impact of AIDS.

All this, plus our regular committee meetings + karaoke @ Propaganda, every Monday, our Wednesday nights getting Pounded @ Propaganda, and Friday barcrawls including Propaganda, Foundation, Fuel, ad2, The Lord Roberts and Poptastic @ NG1, and a whole lot more we're still organising.

Are you looking forward to coming back now?

See you soon!

Picnic in the Park!
Written by: Rhianon Brooks

Unfortunatly, because of circumstances beyond our control, there is no picnic this evening :( <\br><\br>Instead join us in Foundation for a drink later on :)<\br><\br> So, because it is sunny, and because we like sunshine, and vitamin D and all that healthful stuff, we're having a picnic! On Saturday, at about 4 ish, in the arboretum. In true Rhi-catering style, there might be cake (or cookies). If you can't find us, drop me a txt. But we'll start out from the High School Tram stop about 4pm, and find somewhere sunny to have tea.

Recent Changes @ Pride
Written by: Rhianon Brooks

Dear Members, Prospective Members, and Friends,

In the past couple of days there have been a lot of internal changes on Pride Committee, following some tense few months during which all parties tried to reach amicable solutions to the problems we faced.

As a result of these changes the Committee currently (00:00 2nd July 2010) consists of;

Rhi Brooks - Campaigns and Representation Officer, Acting President.

Rob Basset - Secretary

Sam Marshall - Publicity Officer

Tim Dawson - Tri-Campus Liason

Lottie O'Leary - External Events

As a result of these changes, an EGM will be held as soon as possible at the start of academic year 2010/11 to re-elect all committee positions, there having been strong calls for this from both paid members and committee members.

Those remaining on the committe to work through the summer months, organising our involvement with Nottingham Pride, and beginning the preparations for Welcome Week, ask for your support as we do this. Constructive suggestions are always welcome in my inbox (rhianon.brook@ntupride.org.uk) or sent to me via FaceBook.

We would like to remind you of the successful year the society enjoyed in 2009/10, and voice our hope for similar success, fun, frivolity and activism in the coming year.

We are grateful to our sponsors, Propaganda Bar, for continuing to work with and support us, and look forward to seeing this relationship grow next year.

The society is continuing to organise events over the summer months for those still in Nottingham, so please keep checking in for more information about those.

On a personal note; I have made many good friends over the past year in Pride, I know how good this society can be, and I intend to do my utmost to make this society one I will be proud to promote to Freshers in Welcome Week as a great place to come, meet fabulous people, have a laugh and a great night out, as well as do a little bit to make the world around us a bit of a better place.

Thank you for this year, everyone, it's meant a lot to me.

Rhi Brooks

Welfare and Campaigns 2009/10

Campaigns and Representation 2010/11

Happy Summer!
Written by: Tim Dawson

Hello all! Hope everyone's enjoying their Summer so far! And to all of those commencing the horrible wait for exam results, we wish you the best of luck!

The following post represents the opinions of the author only, and not those of NTU Pride, or Nottingham Trent Students' Union.

Sadly, Nottingham's City Council have taken the decision over the past few years (more of which later) that the LGBT Youth group which has operated for many years and made many great achievements was financially no longer viable. This is despite the total cost to them being negligible and costs being heavily controlled by its management team.

This announcement follows a degree of negotiation by the City Council which actually presented responses from several professionals and agencies working with the LGBT community in Nottingham. However, sadly this was in vain.

NTU Pride fully intends to provide support to the young people affected by this decision and are now seeking input and ideas from people on what an independent youth group (which is in the process of being set up by the young people themselves) should include!

Any ideas, please get in touch! You can find my contact information under the 'Contact' section to the right above!

Picnic, Pimms and Petplay - June 12th
Written by: Rhianon Brooks

Just like the title says, it's our last social of the term, and the last social of the year. On Saturday 12th June we're heading over the Brack for a picnic in the sunshine.

We're really lucky to be joined by Sir Guy from The Academy, who will be hosting a Petplay demonstration for us, and De from CAAN, who'll give us a brief introduction to the work of one of the many great charities we'll be supporting next year.

So come along, bring a picnic, and a blanket, and send the year off with a bang.

NTU Pride Present: Safe Spaces
Written by: Tim Dawson

So as Mikey said, next year is going to be even bigger with so much to come which is completely ground-breaking for us as a Society, and for NTSU generally (we believe)!

Part of this, and part of my role is to provide 'safe spaces' at all three campuses at least once per month. The idea behind this is that you have somewhere to go and be yourself, and chill out either on your own or with like minded people. We'll be on hand to provide sign-posting to other services, or to chat with you.

Our ultimate aim will be for a permanent space at least at City Campus which will be open on a regular basis with music, leaflets and other information, as well as things like magazines, and other opportunities to relax.

What we're currently seeking is advice or ideas on what YOU would like these safe spaces or the Pride room to feature or include. If you've got any ideas, please get in touch: info@ntupride.org.uk
